Gloria got a tiny home as a 60th birthday self gift!

Today, Gloria, a vibrant woman in her 60s who loves spending time walking in nature, has downsized her home getting a ruru tiny home as a self gift when she turned 60!. She tells us about her reasons for making this significant decision in her life.

Gloria lives in the West Coast, and she has a friend who also made the move to a tiny home. Suddenly, the idea of getting her own tiny home to make some changes in her life started to sound like the perfect option.

As a tiny home company, we have noticed a few similarities in our clients' lives that we would like to share with you. Some of our clients are young people seeking to buy their first home, while others want a bach for their holiday sections. However, in this story, we find a woman who has reached the perfect age to live her dream life (as she said), and this includes getting a tiny home. Let's see what she has to say about this.

  • Gloria, thank you for talk to us. Can you tell us a bit about your journey and what led you to downsize?

Gloria: “Thank you for interview me! Well, I've always lived in a large house because I raised my three children there. But now that they're all grown up and have their own families, I found myself living alone in a big, empty house. It just didn't make sense anymore. I was 59 years old and I started to feel like I needed a big change in my lifestyle.”

  • What inspired you to take the leap and move to a smaller home?

Gloria: “A friend of mine downsized to a tiny home a couple of years ago, and she kept telling me how much it changed her life for the better. She had more free time, less maintenance to worry about, and she could enjoy her hobbies more. That really resonated with me because I love going for walks and exploring nature, and I wanted more time for that. And, of course, there was the mortgage on my big house. I didn’t want to take on another big bank loan, so selling my house and getting a cosy tiny home without financial stress was very important to me…”

“…When I started to think seriously about going tiny, I mentioned it to my sons to get their opinions. One of them was a little worried, especially because he thought I would need to buy land as well. But another suggested I could move onto his land since it’s a big section. We could maintain our privacy while being close at the same time. So, yes, after that conversation, with their support, I began all the relevant research and found you guys to guide me with all the questions I had.”

  • How has your life changed since moving to a smaller home?

Gloria: “Everything fit perfectly because my tiny delivery day was the same day I turned 60, so it was an awesome self-gift. Isn’t that funny?. I was so happy and felt like it was the beginning of something big, and I wasn’t wrong…”

“…It's been wonderful! I have so much more free time now. The house is easier to clean and maintain, which means I can spend more time outdoors. I go for walks every day, something I truly love. It's like a dream come true. Plus, the smaller space feels so cosy and manageable. I feel more at peace and less overwhelmed. When my grandson, who lives on the same section, visits, I can spend quality time with him not only cooking biscuits but also going on nature adventures. Also, my tiny home has two bedrooms, which means I still have a guest room to accommodate my family.”

  • That sounds amazing. What would you say to others who are considering downsizing but are hesitant?

Gloria: “I would encourage you to give it a try! I understand it might seem daunting at first, but the benefits far outweigh the initial challenges. Living in a tiny home has truly revitalised me. I feel more connected to my surroundings and have ample time to pursue the activities I love. If you're feeling overwhelmed by the upkeep of your current home, downsizing could offer a perfect solution. It's an opportunity to simplify your life and focus on what truly matters…”

“…Whether you're living alone or with a partner, transitioning to a tiny home can bring about incredible changes. I acknowledge that it's a significant decision and may feel daunting for some, but speaking from my own experience, it's been immensely rewarding. If given the chance to decide again, I wouldn't hesitate to choose my tiny home once more!”
