Hello there,

I am Fran Huelsmeyer and I run ruru tiny homes. Together with my husband Daniel, we have created a sustainable, ethical, and successful small business designing, crafting, and delivering Tiny Homes on Wheels all over New Zealand. Our journey began in 2020 out of an idea in difficult pandemic times. Before we knew it, we ran an operation employing up to 70 builders at stages, plus tradesmen and contractors working in tight schedules building tiny home after tiny home, letting us oversee up to 16 units in different stages at the same time in our yard in Motueka.

Singles, young families, retirees, first-time homeowners - everyone seems to be in desperate need for an affordable, high-quality solution to enter, or exit, or sustain, the difficult housing market. Daniel and I are proud to have maintained our standards, our ethics, and our philosophy for the company over the past years.

Our key focus remains on top-notch quality, New Zealand-made materials, sustainable building practices, low waste, and high efficiency, all for a stable and fixed pricing to our customers. Alongside that, our main focus remains the well-being and support of our staff, above living wage employment, fair trade, and solid and respected supplier relationships. Honesty goes a long way.

By now, we even live in our own tiny home, a 12x3m double storey - with our four young sons and the dog, until we have built our forever home. It sure is a journey to downsize to tiny, but once you're in, you're home.
