Why tiny makes you happy!
For many people who haven’t got their heads around the many positive aspects tiny living can bring to your life, this can be a common question. The answer to the question is a very varied and personal one.
No longer the environmental movement that became popular in the early 2000s you will now find young, old, singles, families, retirees and everyone in between enjoy their slice of the good life.
Offering a tangible asset in at world of inflated house prices, requiring minimal maintenance and a chance to live a less materialistic life can all be a draw card for many.
With over 100 tiny houses under our belts at ruru tiny homes we have helped many into their dream lifestyle.
For one young family the move to tiny has been a game changer. Allowing them to enjoy their young one and embrace the self sufficient life that many can only dream of.
"As a family of three - my husband Ben, myself (Emma), and our 18-month-old son, Harley - we have found living off-grid in our RURU tiny home to be an incredibly fulfilling and rewarding lifestyle. Before Harley was born, I worked as a primary school teacher, but after he arrived, I decided to become a full-time mum. Reducing our living costs has enabled me to do this. We chose to live off-grid for several reasons, including our desire to reduce our environmental impact, live a more sustainable lifestyle, and to move out of the city so that Harley would have more space to play and explore.
Living in a unit in Auckland city, we found that Harley didn't have enough space to run around and play, so we wanted to give him more room to grow and explore the outdoors. Since moving to our off-grid tiny home, we take Harley on daily walks where he visits the local sheep and goats, which he absolutely loves. We also love taking him for walks to the beach, which is just a short distance from our home.
One of the main benefits of living off-grid in a tiny home is the ability to generate our own power and water. We installed a ground mounted solar panel array on site, and we have a rainwater collection system in place that provides us with all the water we need. Ben has always been interested in sustainability.
Another benefit of living off-grid is the financial savings. By drastically reducing our living expenses, we're able to save money for experiences and travel, which is something we prioritise as a family. We also grow our own vegetables in a small garden, which saves us money on groceries and provides us with fresh produce year-round.
Perhaps the most rewarding aspect of living off-grid in a tiny home is the family bonding that it has provided. With a smaller living space, we spend more time together as a family, which we enjoy. We often cook meals together and play games, and Harley loves spending time outdoors exploring our surroundings. Living off-grid has provided us with a simpler way of life that we find both fulfilling and rewarding.
Overall, living off-grid in our RURU Tiny Home has been a wonderful decision for our family. We've been able to cultivate a closer connection with nature, reduce our environmental impact, save money, and most importantly, provide Harley with a safe and spacious environment to grow and thrive in."
